As part of its efforts to strengthen international academic cooperation and expand opportunities for scientific and cultural exchange, the University of Karbala took part in the National Erasmus+ Day Conference, hosted by the University of Baghdad. The conference was held on the first day at Al-Hakim Hall and continued on the second day at the halls of the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, with broad local and international participation, as well as the presence of experts, university representatives, and Erasmus+ program trainers.
The University of Karbala delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, President of the University, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawraa Jabbar Rahi Al-Kuraity, Director of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department, and Mr. Ammar Khalaf Zimam, Head of the EU Projects Unit.
On the sidelines of the conference, the University of Baghdad organized an introductory workshop on the program’s mechanisms, during which specialists provided comprehensive explanations on application opportunities, selection criteria, and the academic and cultural exchange prospects that the Erasmus+ program offers to Iraqi university students.
This participation comes in line with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the patronage of H.E. Prof. Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education, aimed at enhancing the international standing of Iraqi universities and opening wider horizons for students and faculty members to compete in global programs.
The conference and its accompanying workshops also emphasized the role of the Erasmus+ program in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education and building international partnerships, thereby contributing to strengthening the efficiency of Iraqi higher education institutions and enhancing their global competitiveness.
